2016 brings SAP Fiori 2.0 into the design landscape for business software
The SAP Fiori 2.0 is the latest upgrade to the SAP Fiori U/X first introduced in 2013. SAP Fiori was aimed at simplifying the use of SAP software across all its solutions. SAP Fiori focused entirely on users and their user experience besides features and functions. The Fiori upgrade – SAP Fiori 2.0 which won a Red Dot Design Award in 2015 goes a notch up in providing contextual and multimodal interaction in the digital enterprise software space.
What you can expect from SAP Fiori 2.0
The previous visual design “Blue Crystal” is replaced by the new Belize background with a refreshing pale blue gradient contrasted against a dark blue notifications area with newly modified icons and graphs. A second version of the new visual design, the Belize Deep with a darker tone is planned to be made available later.
The Fiori Launchpad which now follows the ‘Viewport’ concept has been divided into three sections – Me area, Work Area and the Notifications area:
Me Area
The Me Area towards the left lets the user access recently used objects and apps, an App finder for locating a catalog of available apps, tools to personalize the homepage and provides other Settings options.
Notifications Area
The Notifications Area slides into view from the right. It provides system-driven information such as workflow inbox or chat notifications subscribed by the user. More live insights and actions will be available with S/4 HANA. By providing this option independently from the main content area, the launchpad area doesn’t provide notifications within the launch tiles separating notifications from tiles.
Work Area
The Fiori Launchpad home page has smaller sized App tiles and improved navigation which includes new floor plans like Overview Pages, List Reports and Object Pages.
- Overview Pages – Provides quick actionable insights that are domain-specific
- List Reports – Enables users to filter and work with large amounts of data
- Object Pages – View all facets of a single business object
Classic applications like Webdynpro and SAP GUI for HTML receive the new SAP Fiori 2.0 theme Belize thus rendering the launchpad as a single entry point for all users. Another optional component that has users excited is the SAP Co-pilot, a digital assistant similar to Apple’s Siri that weaves in business data, recognizes business context and adds relevant content automatically.
